That Hits Deep: Hypotony maculopathy due to traumatic cyclodialysis is cleft
Dr. Jillian Liu and Dr. Claire K. Wright break down a unique case study of a 16-year old female patient with recent blunt eye trauma OD which resulted in traumatic cyclodialysis OD, ultimately leading to the development of hypotony maculopathy OD. Quantitative nerve fiber layer assessment of the retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) and optic nerve head using SPECTRALIS demonstrated ONH edema and increased global thickness, and OCT of the macula revealed chorioretinal folds.
In their conclusion of the case, they restate that with a high level of suspicion and prompt action, the prognosis for patients with cyclodialysis are encouraging, with most patients enjoying visual recovery as IOP improves.
