How ANTERION can support clinicians in complex cataract surgery planning
ANTERION® from Heidelberg Engineering is a comprehensive all-in-one-solution for optical biometry and IOL power predictions. ANTERION provides high-resolution images of the anterior segment by combining SS-OCT technology with eye tracking. The resulting images enable the generation of precise measurements needed for confident decision making, and improve cataract and anterior segment surgery outcomes. All anterior segment examinations are performed on a single device allowing for the rapid collection of data needed for surgical interventions and supporting clinicians in the optimization of their clinical workflows.
Capture all biometric data needed
ANTERION’s clear SS-OCT images provide the basis for predictable refractive outcomes. High-resolution imaging allows precise OCT segmentation of the corneal surfaces and facilitates highly accurate preoperative measurements. ANTERION uses SS-OCT for all biometric measurements, including axial length, corneal curvature and SimK, anterior chamber depth, lens thickness, and central corneal thickness and sets itself apart by providing clinicians with a much more comprehensive corneal analysis derived from tomography, pachymetry and wavefront analysis. Cornea data is based on 16,640 data points over an 8 mm zone, and details both the anterior and the posterior corneal surfaces. The new modules of the ANTERION Cornea App for epithelial thickness and ectasia help support clinicians in quickly identifying irregular corneas and pathologies – facilitating advanced technology IOL power predictions and improving clinical outcomes even in the most challenging cases.
Visual confirmation of biometric measurements
With ANTERION clinicians can truly see what they measure, and measure what they see. The high-quality SS-OCT images that generate the measurements give clinicians a visual confirmation of the biometry data collected, resulting in fewer assumptions and more diagnostic confidence. Detailed images of the anterior and posterior capsule play an important part in pre-surgery planning and can give surgeons more confidence in cataract surgery outcomes.
Individualized IOL power predictions
ANTERION offers many options for the calculation of intraocular lenses, allowing clinicians to select the method that best fits their clinical needs. The integrated spherical and toric IOL calculator contains standard IOL power prediction methods (SRK/T, Haigis, Holladay I, Hoffer® Q, Barrett Suite) supported with newly optimized IOL constants for ANTERION from the IOL Con database, as well as an interface to the OKULIX ray-tracing application. OKULIX uses multiple parameters that include full paraxial data from both the anterior and posterior cornea and considers the anterior chamber depth and the lens thickness to calculate the appropriate IOL using ray tracing. In difficult cases – e.g. eyes with unusual geometry or previous refractive laser surgery – ray tracing calculations in combination with ANTERION's precise measurements have led to excellent results.1
Assessment of lens position
ANTERION provides additional information for surgical planning and follow-up. Lens vault can be assessed and the visualization and location of phakic lenses, IOLs, ICLs, and previous surgical procedures can be reviewed in detail. Compare pre- and post-operative metrics easily for the evaluation of the effects of surgical interventions. Furthermore, accurate and reproducible angle measurements can be generated to provide full analysis of anterior chamber geometry.
More than just biometry
ANTERION is more than a high-end optical biometer for IOL power predication. It is a multidisciplinary, modular and upgradable imaging and measurements device that can grow to meet practice needs. Cornea and refractive surgeons, glaucoma specialists, and general ophthalmic practitioners can benefit from four available apps - Imaging App, Cornea App, Cataract App, and Metrics App. ANTERION can be configured in such a way that meets the workflow needs of each clinical discipline.
